Day Two: Still Frantic

Free Agency has moved into stage two. Plans are starting to break down and teams are having to think on their feet a little more. There are a lot of big names still on the board.

Future UFA's

There are a number of players looking towards this afternoons 4pm ET limit before they get cut loose into the free agency mix. This has to an extent slowed some of the movement so far today as teams are waiting to see who actually comes free.

Steve Smith

Carolina can't see a way to keep Smith at his current price, so they've been looking to trade him. It seems unlikely that anyone wants to trade for him, so a rush of teams will hit his inbox hard as soon as he is released by the Panthers.

Darrelle Revis

No one wants to pay a cornerback in excess of $16 million a year, and that's where Revis sits right now. Tampa want to restructure his deal, but so far he's been unreceptive to that option. That has resulted in a situation where they are looking to trade him, but that is just as unlikely as a Steve Smith deal.

Darren Sproles

It's the same situation down in New Orleans, just yesterday they made the signing of Jairus Byrd which left them with less than no cap space to work with. Darren Sproles is another player that is in position for a potential trade, but is most likely to be released and enter free agency.

Chris Johnson

CJ2K isn't the same back he once was, but that doesn't make him a bad option. He's on his way into the fold as a free agent, and he'll become the top running back prospect when that does happen. I'm curious to see who's interested in him, as he's not been gaining the coverage that those above him on this list have.

Current Free Agents

The big names that are still on the board, discussions all on-going with regards to these players.

Eric Decker

Moving out of Denver and there have been a lot of teams talking to him over the last day. The Jets are in prime position but the Browns, Texans and Lions are all in the hunt too.

Jared Allen

Allen has attracted some interest, but he's warned teams that he may retire if he doesn't get a deal he likes. So far, he's spoken with the Seahawks and the Bears. He's also said to be on his way to Denver to hear them out, potentially on a one or two year deal - and the opportunity to gain a ring.

Julius Peppers

Past his best, but certainly never a bad pick up. Teams will be looking for a shorter length deal, but he's hard to ignore as one of three all-pro defensive ends in this free agency class. I've not seen much with regards to his stock, but several teams have been waiting for DeMarcus Ware to clear off the board before making a move on those below him (Peppers and Allen).

I'm doing my best keeping up to date here, but I'm on top as much as I can be over @AScotOnGridiron on Twitter.
