It's Almost Draft Time

We're now counting down the hours to the NFL Draft. Big boards have been determined, pulled down, re-determined and finalised. Analysts and fans have wagered on each and every strategy under the sun, and now the final few pre-draft days are before us.

The big question that's still unanswered is "What will Houston do?"

The privilege of being the first player selected in any given draft is always special, but within this years class it is potentially the highest honour in a number of years. Not only will someone be walking out of Radio City Music Hall with the accolade of No. 1 overall, but they will have a distinction of being selected ahead of a band of players that are decidedly great with reference to recent draft classes. There is a feeling that there's very little a team can do wrong in picking a player from this years top 50 prospects (although rest assured fans will always complain).

The top tip for number one overall is Jadeveon Clowney, whether Houston keep the pick for him or trade it to head down the draft board.

Who's moving up/down?

Starting at the top, if Houston don't want Clowney then they're likely to try and trade down a few places to pick up another pick for this draft class. Around the top 10 there is a lot of talk about trading up a space or two, or down a space or two to pick up the best player. In all reality, trades tend to dilute overall value for both sides. Trades that could buck the trend and pay off;

Come Get Sammy Watkins
The more I watch film, the more I hear him speak, the more I hear people speak about him. The more exposure I have to Sammy Watkins, the more convinced I am that he's going to the Hall of Fame. I believe he's good enough to be taken off the board before anyone else. I know a lot of teams think the same thing, but is he really that much better than Mike Evans?

Who Wants 49ers Picks?
The 49ers are overstocked with picks. This could mean a great new batch of players heading to the Bay Area, it could also mean the 49ers are gearing up to ship a few picks and get another franchise piece. Keep your eyes on where the 49ers are as the draft runs it's course.

Kelvin Benjamin?!

Why do players become more desirable as distance is put between now, and when they last played? Benjamin has been over hyped since the end of the college season. Yeah, he's a good player, but he's not great. From everything I've heard there are doubts over his attitude, and it's irrelevant how gifted he might be if he's not going to apply himself (read: JaMarcus Russell - yeah, again).

Another name that has been rising up boards lately is Tom Savage. A quarterback I had to go back and check up on, unimpressive but solid enough to not draw a massive downside. Certainly not worth a first round pick, or even a second round in my estimation.

Players that make a late assault on the draft boards are tales of caution. They tend to not be worthwhile, with the exception of players that were forgotten due to injury. And yeah, that's a not so subtle nod to Zach Mettenberger.

I'm going to be active for Draft night tomorrow evening, might even do a bit of a live broadcast. Here's hoping it's a good one!
